When I first read the “Anyway” poem, it resounded with me for reasons that I still don’t fully understand. Mother Teresa has been an inspiration for as long as I can remember, but only in the fringes of my beliefs. I recently did a search about the poem that has been attributed to Mother Teresa. I was asking myself questions about how I could exude the same quiet strength and grace I remember of Mother Teresa when I was a little girl and stories about her would show up in the evening news. To my surprise, the “Anyway” poem that is credited to her – and that is on the home page of this site – appears to have been excerpted or inspired by “The Paradoxical Commandments” written by Dr. Kent M. Keith. Here’s a link for the origins of this work. paradoxicalcommandments.com
I’ve come to accept that I am someone who likes to read, think, research, think some more, read again, and continue the circle as my beliefs change and I grow. In that path, I wanted to find a way to make a little change in the world. To leave a momento of my own history with the hope that, when someone else reflects on this tomorrow or long after I’m gone, they will see that I tried to leave this space a little better than when I first came here.
And so this is the beginning. At least, it’s the beginning for Reflections of Anyway. In this space, I want to talk about the everyday – the chaos – that we all live. In this chaos, whether you see it as a positive or negative force, we will explore how the issues and actions affect ourselves, each other, the earth, and the greater world around us. From there, we will find a way to bring a little bit of the quiet strength and grace to our hearts, minds, and lives.
“You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God; It was never between you and them anyway.”
